WP 4 Description

Guidance: Development of guidelines and a toolkit for practitioners

In WP4, the knowledge about end user involvement in active demand projects will be translated from ‘what works' to ‘how can this be achieved'. Supporting material and tools with practical use will be developed to help guide practitioners implement the advice into their projects. In this WP the success factors and promising practices identified from the studies and evaluations in WP1 and WP3 will be translated into guidelines and tools to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of user interaction schemes. These are aimed at project practitioners and support them in identifying target groups and social and technical issues involved. By following the guidelines and using the tools, practitioners can easily identify the most successful approach suitable for their specific situation.

The guidelines and toolkit will be created to increase project performance against the established KPIs. The insights from existing projects and promising practices from other disciplines such as behavioural sciences, telecommunications, and marketing that were assessed in WP3 be tailored to the specific needs of active demand projects. Emphasis will be placed on the flexibility and adaptability of the guidelines to different contexts and different end user groups. Together, guidelines and tools comprise improvements in the technology as well as in the establishment of new services and customer involvement strategies.

An interactive website will be developed, which will give practitioners easy access to the toolkit developed in WP4, by helping them identify the guidelines and tools of interest and help them use these tools. In addition, it will allow for interaction with the practitioners, link to external interesting resources and update on news events. Tools will include practical step by step advice on implementation, placing emphasis on identification and involvement of essential stakeholders and representative bodies, analysis of and adaptation to context. The guidelines will contain checklists of key pitfalls and success factors and descriptions of inspiring examples.

Through close cooperation with project practitioners in WP5 the guidelines will be implemented in the test sites and the tools developed will be tested as to their usefulness in following these guidelines and usability in the field. The researchers will draw lessons from the test sites and improve the guidelines and tools to better fit the practice and improve usability. This can range from a refinement of project phases to better adaptability of the toolkit to aspects of the context not previously identified. Through this reiteration process the final toolkit will fit the practice better, be easy to use and adaptable to a wide array of contexts.
